Welcome My name is Priya Curtis and I am a professional labor assistant, or "doula." A doula provides continuous emotional and physical support during labor and delivery, as well as information, compassion and encouragement before and after birth. Birth can be an empowering, beautiful, and transformative experience. My goal is to support you as you make this journey, to facilitate the most satisfying, safe and positive birth experience possible. Why hire a labor assistant? Numerous studies have shown that hiring a labor support professional can often improve both the birth experience and its outcome. Many studies have shown that expectant mothers who hire doulas often: have a reduced need for, and lower use of, medication for pain relief; are less likely to have a cesarean section; are less likely to need vacuum or forceps extraction, and have more positive ratings of their birth experiences.
